Harold Smith obtained his Bachelor of Architecture from University of Toronto in 1970. His professional experience began with an apprenticeship at Petroff Partnership, where he worked on numerous commercial and industrial projects. In 1973, Mr. Smith joined Allan Levine Architect, where he remained for eight years. Between 1981 and 1988, he worked at a number of firms, including Bregman + Hamann, Cole Sherman, L.E.Glazer and Volgyesi and Probst Inc. During this period, Mr. Smith returned to University of Toronto on a part-time basis to complete a Master of Business Administration, which he received in 1988. In 1989, he opened his own practice, completing a range of industrial, commercial and residential projects until joining David Mesbur in partnership in 1992.

In addition to the firm's cinema design work, Mr. Smith has completed the renovation of Sony of Canada's head office in Toronto, the temporary relocation of the Ontario Provincial Police to Orillia, and the invited submission to renovate and refurbish the Bank of China historic office building in Shanghai. He has developed quality control systems for cinema projects world wide and is responsible for dealing with cinema construction methods and code requirements throughout the world. He has an interest in historical buildings and their preservation and is on the boards of two Toronto-based environmental groups. Harold brings his technical construction knowledge, design ability and marketing skills to the practice.
