Drexel Cinemas, South Gateway Center (Columbus, Ohio - 2004)
The Gateway Cinema project is part of a major urban redevelopment of lands adjoining Ohio State University. Comprising 7 cinemas with approximately 1,000 seats, the complex also includes a "black box" performing space for special events. This film centre will screen primarily art and foreign films, with 20% of the product being first-run commercial movies. The mezzanine level features an intimate bar and café, with enhanced balcony seating in the two largest auditoriums. The decor incorporates exposed metal structures, reminiscent of industrial buildings, combined with corrugated metal walls and panels of stained plywood. A main level café overlooks the street below.
