Cinemex Cine Real (Mexico City, Mexico - 2001)

The Cine Real, which opened November 8, 2001, in Mexico City's historic central district, is the first all new multiplex to be constructed in the downtown core. INAH, the local historical board, required the facade of the new building to be compatible with the historic architecture of the area. As well, the restrictions of the site demanded a multi-level design solution. The resulting five storey structure comprises ground level retail space with two, double height cinema levels above. The eight auditoriums range in capacity from 116 to 374, with a total of 1,750 seats. The project has transformed the streetscape of the district, and helped to re-vitalize the area.
