Cineplex Odeon River Oaks (Chicago, Illinois USA - 1987)

The conversion of an old Kresge's store in the River Oaks Shopping Centre to a multiplex cinema presented some interesting challenges. The roof was raised ten feet and completely reframed to eliminate many of the existing columns, and to obtain sufficient clear height for the cinemas. A projection mezzanine was constructed within the shell. The sinuous curves of the lobby, combined with neon, establish a strong identity in this suburban context.
